News: Holistic Vet Care - Alternative Medicine For Pets
Posted on Friday, September 02, 2005"Can acupuncture relieve a dog's arthritis pain or can changing diet cure it? Can flower essences calm an anxious cat or chiropractic care stimulate a horse's immune system to fight infection?
... Many animal owners swear by these unconventional treatments, collectively called holistic veterinary care. The American Holistic Veterinary Medicine Association (www.ahvma.org) says holistic describes an approach to health care that uses minimally invasive techniques, strives to treat root problems not symptoms, and promotes self-healing.
Holistic veterinary care can include, individually or in concert, acupuncture, acupressure, shiatsu, trigger point therapy, therapeutic touch therapy, chiropractic, osteopathy, therapeutic massage, hydrotherapy, nutritional therapies, herbal therapy, biochemic tissue salts, Bach flower remedies, aroma and pheromone therapy, etc."
Two of our dogs have undergone treatments with holistic practitioners. We've seen significant improvements for both of them. One is going to be 19 this year, the other is four. Conditions addressed include: tumors, degenerative spinal disorder, itching skin, and allergies.
